Twenty-one Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres (NRCs) will soon be established in the State, adding 175 beds to the existing capacity of 340, according to Minister for Health, Medical and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav.

In a statement on Thursday, Mr. Satya Kumar said the new centres, coming up in the districts of Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Bapatla, Nandyal, Polavaram, Krishna, Parvathipuram Manyam, Chittoor, East and West Godavari, Annamayya and Palnadu, would be brought into operation in phases. In some places, 10-bed centres would come up, while some centres would have five beds.

The NRCs are health facilities where children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) are admitted and managed. At present, Andhra Pradesh has 21 such facilities with a bed strength of 340.

The Minister said 5,961 children were admitted to these centres in 2024-25, while the number rose to 6,195 in 2025–26. This year, from April to August, 2,492 children were admitted. Most of them recovered, he said.

The new centres with a bed strength of 10 would come up at Araku, Munchingiput, and Chintapalli in Alluri Sitharama Raju district, Sunnipenta and Narasaraopet in Palnadu district, and in Anakapalli, Bapatla and Nandyal.

Seven Integrated NRCs, being established for children suffering from malnutrition in the tribal areas and having five beds each, are coming up at Addateegala and Y. Ramavaram in Polavaram district, and at Salur, Palakonda, Badragiri, Kurupam, and Chinamerangi in Parvathipuram Manyam district.

In addition to the above centres, the government has sanctioned another six NRCs for the 2026–27 financial year. These will be established at Madanapalle in Annamayya district, Chittoor, Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari district, Machilipatnam in Krishna district, Hindupur in Sri Sathya Sai district, and Tanuku in West Godavari district. Each centre will have 10 beds.
