BJP takes a dig at Karnataka govt. over 100-day celebrations

Ridiculing the Congress government for holding a grand event to mark 100 days of governance, the Opposition BJP remarked that people remember those who provide opportunities to build their lives, not those who hold grand events.

In a social media post, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok referred to the recent episode in which a poor woman admitted that she did not know him when Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met her during a field visit. BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra also criticised the event while speaking in Ballari.

“Mr. Shivakumar, it is easy to hold a grand show in Vidhana Soudha’s banquet hall using taxpayers’ money. But it is difficult to earn a place in the hearts of the people,” Mr. Ashok said.

“If you want people to know who you are, you must bring about a positive change in their lives,” he maintained.

“It is easy to become a ‘Real Estate’ leader. But it is difficult to become a ‘Real’ leader. It is easy to become ‘Dhan’ Nayak. But it is difficult to become ‘Jan’ Nayak,” he said.

He alleged that the Chief Minister was frustrated after realising that common people did not know him despite spending crores of rupees on publicity campaigns and image-building, besides issuing full-page advertisements in newspapers and leveraging social media. “It is out of such frustration that he is spending several crores and holding a grand event,” he maintained.
