BRICS Summit 2026 Leaders New Delhi Bharat Mandapam September 12: India is all set to host the 18th BRICS Summit, with several world leaders and senior officials arriving in the national capital ahead of the two-day meeting, which begins today (Saturday).
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi are among the key leaders attending.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with at least 15 visiting dignitaries, including Putin, Xi and Pezeshkian.
Xi’s visit marks his first trip to India in nearly seven years, while Pezeshkian is making his first official visit to the country as Iranian president. Putin arrived in Delhi on Friday for the summit.
India is hosting the summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13 under its fourth BRICS chairship. The grouping also marks 20 years since its establishment this year.
BRICS Summit: Key Agenda
The summit will focus on development, trade, finance, technology, sustainability and cooperation among emerging economies and the Global South. Geopolitical tensions, including the war in West Asia and Ukraine, are also expected to feature in discussions.
BRICS currently has 11 member countries and 10 partner countries.
Delhi Traffic Restrictions
The summit is also expected to affect traffic across the capital. The Delhi Police has announced restrictions and diversions on several key roads from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm on September 12.
Commuters have been advised to plan journeys, use the Metro where possible and follow traffic personnel’s directions. Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority.

South Asia analyst Michael Kugelman said on Saturday that the 18th BRICS Summit offers India, the chair, a pivotal platform to reassert its global leadership and strengthen ties with the Global South amid growing volatility in the international order.
Analysing the geopolitical landscape surrounding the summit, Kugelman noted that the gathering comes at a crucial juncture as developing nations seek alternatives to the existing global framework. “Timing is very important for BRICS because we are seeing an intensification of volatility in the global economic and financial order, as well as in the global order as a whole. BRICS is meant to provide new contributions to the global order at a time when there is rising discontent with that order, particularly within the Global South,” Kugelman stated.

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong on Friday said Beijing will work with India to “properly handle differences”, enhance cooperation and strengthen communication as the two countries prepare for a bilateral meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi.
Xu said the two countries should handle their bilateral ties from a “strategic height and long-term perspective” and work to be “friends enjoying good-neighbourliness and partners helping each other succeed”.

Leaders from Asia, Africa and the wider Global South arrived in New Delhi on Friday ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, which India is hosting on September 12-13.
Philippine President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow were among those who arrived.
