Prime Minister Narendra Modi found himself at the centre of an impromptu photo opportunity at the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi on Friday, after a group of foreign delegates approached him for a picture.

“Can we have a picture?" one of the delegates asked.

“Yes, of course," PM Modi replied and took a picture with the delegate. Within moments, other delegates around him were heard calling out, “Please, Prime Minister Modi."

Listening to their request, the prime minister moved towards the group of delegates to take a picture.

As the delegates assembled, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian were seen stepping aside to make room for the group around PM Modi.

The Prime Minister then briefly asked the delegates to wait as everyone got into position for the photograph.

The informal exchange took another light-hearted turn when the official taking the photograph said, “You are so lucky, all the ladies."

The remark drew laughter from the group, which responded, “We are all so lucky."

“Thank you," PM Modi said as the brief interaction came to an end.

PM Modi At BRICS Summit

The candid exchange provided a lighter moment during a day dominated by high-level diplomatic and business engagements at the BRICS summit. PM Modi addressed the BRICS Business Forum and also held bilateral meetings with Putin and Pezeshkian.

India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, bringing together leaders and representatives from the expanded grouping.

BRICS initially consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The grouping expanded in 2024 with the inclusion of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, while Indonesia joined in 2025.

Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are among the countries that became BRICS partner countries last year.
