The Union Government has accorded sanction to the third and fourth railway lines between the Renigunta Junction and Arakkonam Junction stations for a distance of 77 km on the busy Chennai route.

The section is considered the most crucial line in southern India, as it connects Chennai with most of the sections towards west, north and south.

Member of Parliament (Tirupati) M. Gurumoorthy thanked Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw for recognising the importance of this section in regulating traffic across various routes.

“As this section directly impacts Renigunta, which is considered the gateway to Tirupati, the development will benefit thousands of devotees visiting Tirupati everyday by scores of trains,” Dr. Gurumoorthy said in a release. He also requested the Ministry to consider increasing the number of express and passenger trains in the crucial section.
