"I can go to any extent. The day you dare to insult any faculty member of this campus, you are gone forever," the Nirma professor warned the student after the collar-grab.

A stand-up comedy night at Ahmedabad’s Nirma University turned into a full-blown row after a professor allegedly grabbed a student by the collar for cracking a Golmaal 3 one-liner. The video, from the university’s Technofora 2026 fest, is now going viral, splitting opinion between “well-deserved" and “assault."

The incident allegedly unfolded during a set by comedian Rajat Sood, part of the three-day Technofora 2026 event held September 18–20. As a professor — reportedly the head of Nirma’s electrical and instrumentation department — addressed the audience, a student in the crowd called out “Jaldi bol, Panvel nikalna hai," a nod to Mukesh Tiwari’s Golmaal 3 character Vasooli Bhai.

The professor is then seen calling the student on stage and grabbing his collar, warning him on camera: “I can go to any extent. The day you dare to insult any faculty member of the Nirma University campus, you are gone forever."

Was This Really About A Movie Dialogue?

The line itself has a longer history than the meme suggests. As per widely circulated reports, “Abey jaldi bol, kal subah Panvel nikalna hai" was never scripted.

During the 2010 shoot in Goa, Shreyas Talpade’s character was meant to stammer through a scene — but co-star Mukesh Tiwari, genuinely racing to catch a flight to Panvel, broke character out of real impatience.

Director Rohit Shetty liked the moment enough to keep it in. The dialogue didn’t truly explode until years later, riding Instagram meme pages around 2018–19 and then the 2020 lockdown reels boom, where it became shorthand for anyone taking forever to get to the point — long meetings, vague trailers, and slow-typing friends included.

How Did The Internet React?

Reactions on X were split down the middle. User @rangroot0104 asked bluntly, “Professor or Goonda?" while @Praxticus argued the student should file a case, asking, “Professor hai ya sadakchhap gunda?!" On the other side, @NitinBh22612274 backed the professor, calling the students involved “gutter chaap gundas" who “need treatment." @AdrishDas08 took a middle path, saying both parties were wrong but that “the student was at more fault."

Is The University Responding?

According to The Times of India, the Congress-linked National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has demanded a public apology from the professor and an impartial inquiry into the incident, threatening a protest if the demands go unmet.

NSUI state vice-president Vedant Tomar said the university “should conduct an impartial inquiry," while national coordinator Bhavik Solanki claimed the student was subjected to inappropriate behaviour.

Nirma University is yet to respond to queries on the matter, per TOI, and the sequence of events — including the student’s exact remark and what triggered the professor’s reaction — remains unverified independently.
