Nearly 90 kg ganja seized in Thiruvananthapuram

The Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police have seized 87.59 kg of ganja allegedly transported from Andhra Pradesh to Keralam.

In an operation undertaken as part of the anti-narcotics enforcement drive Operation Toofan, the police nabbed three people under the Aryancode police station limits.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday (September 10, 2026), Additional Superintendent of Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police J.K. Dinil said the ganja was seized from a Tamil Nadu-registered car during the raid. The police recovered 40 packets, with each packet containing nearly 2.2 kg of ganja.

Two persons, identified as Akhil and Sudheesh, were initially arrested. During detailed interrogation, the police allegedly learned that the consignment had been brought to the district for Joby Jose, a notorious drug peddler based in Thiruvananthapuram. The investigation team subsequently arrested the habitual offender. 

According to Mr. Dinil, Jose has been an accused in 13 cases, including several cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The investigators suspect that the large consignment was intended for distribution across Thiruvananthapuram and other districts. The police also suspect that the drugs were to be supplied in smaller quantities to various locations, including schools and coastal and other sensitive areas.
