Role of pharmacists in strengthening healthcare systems highlighted

The GITAM School of Pharmacy observed World Pharmacist Day (September 25) and National Pharmacy Week 2026 under the AMR Awareness Mission, focusing on ‘Swasth Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)’, in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Principal L. Srinivas highlighted the role of pharmacists in strengthening healthcare systems and promoting responsible antimicrobial use. G. Prasad, head of the Department of Nephrology at Andhra Medical College, spoke about chronic kidney disease and Uddanam Nephropathy, stressing early diagnosis and preventive healthcare.

M. Krishnaji Rao, general manager, R&D, Divi’s Laboratories Limited, highlighted AI-assisted drug discovery, computational chemistry, digital laboratories and personalised medicine. Academic competitions were also organised.
