Tejashwi writes to Bihar CM demanding life-size statues of Ram Vilas, Sharad Yadav and Raghuvansh

Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Friday (September 11, 2026) wrote to Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and demanded ​life-size statues of the late former Union Minister Sharad Yadav, the late Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, and the late Ram Vilas Paswan in the state, and also to declare their anniversaries as state functions.

His move is seen as an addition to Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) broader plan of asserting itself as a party which stands for the “A to Z” castes and communities. It also signals that the RJD is going beyond its traditional MY (Muslim-Yadav) vote bank, offering an inclusive coalition aimed at taking ahead both backwards and forward castes together.

Sharad Yadav belonged to the OBC (Other Backwards Classes), whereas Mr. Paswan was from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Mr. Singh was a Rajput, an upper-caste leader. All three leaders had earlier served in the Central government as Union Ministers.

“The late Raghuvansh Prasad, the late Sharad Yadav, and the late Ram Vilas were not only distinguished figures of the state but also stalwart socialist leaders. Through their social commitment and active political lives, these leaders rendered remarkable service to Bihar. They were illustrious sons of the nation, and we, the people of Bihar, will forever remain indebted to them for their personalities and their contributions,”Mr. Yadav wrote.

In the letter, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) National Working President Mr. Yadav also reminded that a few days before his passing, the late Raghuvansh Babu had expressed a desire—via a letter addressed to the then Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar—to have certain demands fulfilled.

“Even after six years, no positive action has been taken regarding those demands. I am confident that you will take the necessary steps to fulfil his pending requests. Honouring and fulfilling the late Raghuvansh Babu’s final wishes would be a true tribute to him,”Mr. Yadav said.

In his final days, Mr. Singh had sent three separate letters to Mr. Kumar with the demands of bringing an amendment for MGNREGA, which is now known as VB G RAM G (Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), holding the Republic Day flag hoisting in Vaishali and bringing back bhiksha patra (alms bowl) of Lord Buddha from Afghanistan.

Describing Sharad Yadav, the RJD leader said that he was active for a long period in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, representing Bihar, and was a towering socialist leader.

“Throughout his life, he championed the politics of ‘social justice,’ making unprecedented contributions to the upliftment of the downtrodden and backward classes and improving the standard of living for the common man. Similarly, the late Ram Vilas Paswan was a proponent of egalitarian development and socialism. He dedicated his entire life to the social upliftment, struggle, security, and development of the oppressed, downtrodden, and marginalised sections of society,”Mr. Yadav wrote.
