Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer plans to expand manufacturing in India and deepen partnerships with local aerospace suppliers.

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer is looking to increase its manufacturing presence in India as it seeks a larger role for Indian companies in its global aerospace supply chain.

The company is exploring ways to expand local production and build stronger partnerships with Indian manufacturers. The move could further strengthen India’s position as a manufacturing base for the global aviation industry.

Embraer’s Global Head of Government Relations, Jose Serrador Neto, recently met Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to discuss the company’s plans for India.

Naidu said he was pleased to hear about Embraer’s plans under the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. He also pointed to the growing confidence of global aircraft manufacturers in India’s aerospace sector and the increasing role of Indian companies as suppliers to international aviation firms.

According to the Commerce and Industry Ministry, the talks also focused on Embraer’s plans to expand its manufacturing footprint and deepen India’s aerospace ecosystem. The discussions are in line with the government’s wider push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and its aim of making India a major global manufacturing hub.

Embraer has been gradually expanding its activities in India beyond selling aircraft. It is looking at opportunities in areas such as supplier development, maintenance, engineering and aircraft manufacturing.

The company has also been assessing the capabilities of Indian firms in several specialised areas, including aerostructure assembly, machining, metal forming, composites and wiring systems. Indian companies are also being explored for hardware and software development as Embraer works to bring more local suppliers into its international network.

The company has already taken steps towards greater localisation. Embraer signed a memorandum of understanding with Hindalco Industries to explore the production of aerospace-grade aluminium in India.

Indian engineering and manufacturing companies are also becoming part of Embraer’s supply chain. Mahindra has entered the company’s supplier network through its partnership with Spanish aerospace firm Aernnova, while Bharat Forge has won a contract to supply forged products.

The latest discussions suggest that Embraer’s India strategy is moving beyond aircraft sales towards deeper manufacturing, sourcing and industrial partnerships.

If the plans move ahead, India could become an increasingly important part of Embraer’s global aerospace manufacturing and supply network.
