Speaking at the launch of Aparajita, the Hindi edition of former State Bank of India Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya’s memoir Indomitable, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani delivered a heartfelt address celebrating the triumph of human resilience, family values, and female leadership. Addressing a distinguished gathering at the BSE Auditorium in Mumbai, Ambani praised Bhattacharya as an unstoppable force whose life story reflects the true spirit of an invincible India, observing that while the English title Indomitable captures her courage, the Hindi title Aparajita carries an even deeper resonance for the youth across the nation’s towns and villages.

Fulfilling a five-year-old commitment originally delayed by the Covid pandemic, Ambani highlighted Bhattacharya’s invaluable contributions as an independent director on the Reliance Board since 2018. He praised her sharp strategic mind, describing her as a natural problem-solver who challenges constructively and sees the future early. Emphasising the vital importance of emotional intelligence in modern governance, Ambani noted that women bring a rare empathy quotient to corporate boardrooms, asserting his firm conviction that the world today requires far more emotional quotient than pure intellectual quotient. He revealed that his daughter, Isha Ambani, considers Bhattacharya a guiding mentor, embodying a rare combination of wisdom, directness, and generosity toward the next generation of leaders.

Reflecting on the core lessons of the memoir, Ambani shared personal insights on accountability, lifelong learning, and leadership. Drawing parallels with his father, Dhirubhai Ambani, who envisioned the transformation of the Indian capital market five decades ago, he stressed that setbacks must be viewed not as final verdicts but as constructive feedback. He urged leaders to take responsibility rather than externalise blame, remain perpetual students who learn from younger generations, and focus on creating more leaders rather than collecting followers. Reminiscing on Bhattacharya’s rise from her childhood in the steel cities of Bhilai and Bokaro to becoming the first female head of a two-century-old financial institution, Ambani observed that true natural intelligence can never be replaced by artificial intelligence.

Concluding his address with a call to action, Ambani urged corporate India to build a robust support ecosystem for working mothers, ensuring that female professionals receive the institutional backing they deserve. Pledging the full support of the Reliance Foundation alongside his wife Nita Ambani and daughter Isha Ambani, he invited Bhattacharya to guide a collective corporate initiative aimed at empowering the next generation of women leaders. He declared that when the women of India become unstoppable, the nation itself becomes unstoppable, calling on Corporate India to help nurture the architects of a progressive, self-reliant Bharat.
