Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK chief C Joseph Vijay on Friday accused the DMK and BJP of being no different from each other, while describing the MK Stalin-led party as an “evil force" and targeting it over corruption.

Vijay was addressing a campaign meeting in Madurantakam ahead of the October 6 bypoll, necessitated by the resignation of AIADMK’s K Maragatham Kumaravel, who later joined Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Kumaravel has been re-nominated by the party. Dharapuram seat in Tiruppur district will also go to polls.

Taking aim at the DMK, Vijay said the party had been the political enemy of AIADMK founder MGR and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, and claimed that the same was true for him today.

“Back then, for MGR also, the same Dravidian force, the DMK, was the enemy. For Jayalalithaa madam also, the same Dravidian force, the DMK, was the enemy. Today, for this Vijay also, the same Dravidian force, the DMK, is the enemy," he said.

Vijay also alleged that the DMK was using the BJP to create fear among people.

“Whenever you look, they keep saying, ‘BJP will come in, BJP will come in,’ doing all these scare tactics and fooling the people. Even the BJP itself has started struggling to breathe. That is exactly what I said earlier. There is no difference between the DMK and the BJP," he said.

“The DMK in Delhi is nothing but the BJP. The BJP in Tamil Nadu is nothing but the DMK," Vijay added.

Vijay Targets DMK Over Corruption

The TVK chief also targeted the DMK over allegations of corruption, saying the party demanded evidence whenever the issue was raised in the Assembly.

“Did you notice one thing in the Assembly? The moment you say ‘corruption,’ they say, ‘Show the evidence.’ If there is no immediate evidence, they say, ‘You shouldn’t talk about matters that are before the court here,’" Vijay said.

He alleged that the DMK’s intention was to prevent him from speaking in the Assembly.

“Their intention is very clear to me. Their intention is that Vijay should not be allowed to speak. That’s why I have to raise my voice over their noise, so that my voice reaches the people," he said.

Addressing Stalin and the DMK, Vijay said, “If you have committed corruption, we will not let it go. You cannot cheat the people of Tamil Nadu, and we will not allow you to cheat them."

Vijay also referred to remarks made about his family and women in Tamil Nadu, saying he had tolerated criticism directed at his mother but could not accept what he described as obscene remarks about women.

“I tolerated even when they spoke bad about my own mother. But when they spoke in an obscene manner about my sisters and mothers in Tamil Nadu, I could not accept it," he said.

Vijay alleged that both the DMK and the “DMK family" had engaged in such language and said this “cannot be tolerated".

DMK Hits Back At Vijay

Reacting to Vijay’s remarks, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said Stalin had already made it clear that the BJP was the DMK’s “major enemy".

“Vijay continues to speak on the same line because he is instructed to speak on the same line," Elangovan said.

Responding to Vijay’s criticism, Elangovan also questioned the TVK chief’s record and said, “He has not done any good thing for society."
