Ensure building permissions are conspicuously displayed at construction sites: HC to GHMC, CMC, MMC Commissioners

Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the High Court directed the Commissioners of Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations to instruct their respective deputy commissioners and town planning officers to display building permissions granted to owners at the construction sites. 

If the same were not displayed, the authorities should temporarily stop the ongoing construction, the judge said in the order. The judge made it clear that property owners of sites spread over less than 75 square yards (which do not require any building permission) should also display their permissions (provisional certificate of registration) on the construction site, the judge said. 

Justice Vijaysen Reddy passed the direction while hearing a writ petition about some persons constructing buildings without securing permissions and eventually applying for regularisation of the same at Siddiamber Bazaar, in Hyderabad. The judge wanted the commissioners to direct the municipal officials concerned to visit all the under-construction sites in Siddiamber Bazaar, Begum Bazaar and other parts of the city to check whether the construction works were in compliance with the permissions granted. 

The judge instructed the authorities to stop forthwith all construction being made in deviation from the sanctioned plans. He directed officials to ensure that building owners with plots of more than 75 square yards did not misuse the self-certification facility under the Special Act.
