KSEB’s Anti Power Theft Squad unearths irregularities in Ernakulam district

The Anti Power Theft Squad (APTS) of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has unearthed power theft valued at ₹3.14 crore in inspections conducted in Ernakulam district.

A high-tension (HT) consumer in Maradu with eligibility for a connected load of 50 kilowatts (kW) was found to have an illegal connection of 260 kW. From this illegal connection, the consumer was found to have been providing electricity to 145 shops bypassing the KSEB electricity meter.

In a separate case, the APTS found excess load of 850 kW on a connection in an establishment in Kalamassery municipality which had authorisation for only 450 kW. Power was being supplied from this connection to the mobile towers of the BSNL and Airtel.

The special drive in Ernakulam district was conducted by the APTS, Kollam unit. Similar inspections would continue across the State in the days ahead, the KSEB’s Chief Vigilance Officer said.
