NCC cadets of Maris Stella College stage anti-drug street play at Vijayawada railway station

A street play on the dangers of drug abuse, performed by NCC girl cadets outside Vijayawada railway station on Friday, drew the attention of passengers and members of the public, with many stopping to watch the performance.

The awareness programme was organised by NCC cadets of Maris Stella College, Vijayawada, under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA). As many as 100 girl cadets participated in the campaign.

Through the street play, the cadets highlighted the harmful consequences of drug abuse and appealed to young people to stay away from narcotic substances. The cadets and members of the public later took a pledge to contribute to making India drug-free, reiterating the campaign slogan, “Say No to Drugs”.

A human chain was also formed around the railway station premises to reinforce the anti-drug message. The cadets distributed pamphlets carrying information on drug abuse and interacted with members of the public as part of the awareness campaign.

The programme was conducted under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Directorate, Kakinada Group and 4(A) Girls Battalion NCC, under the guidance of Commanding Officer Col. Praveen Yadav. Associate NCC Officer Captain Shailaja participated in the programme and coordinated the activities.

Maris Stella College Principal Sr. Inyasamma Gade extended support and encouragement to the initiative. The organisers thanked Kakinada Group Commander Col. Rithin Mohan Agarwal and DDG, AP&T Directorate, Major General Narsingh Sailani, for their guidance and support for the campaign.
