Three killed, four injured in rain-related incidents in Krishna, NTR Districts

Three persons died and four others were injured in separate rain related incidents on Thursday.

A woman, identified as Darapureddy Samrajyam (53), got electrocuted after she came in contact with a snapped live wire on the road at Peddakallepalli village in Mopidevi mandal of Krishna district, said Avanigadda Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) R. Abhishek.

In another incident, two youths died after the bike they were riding was hit by a four-wheeler on Penumudi bridge at Avanigadda. Poor visibility and slippery road due to rain were suspected to be the reasons for the accident.

The Avanigadda police have registered a case and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination, the DSP said.

Meanwhile, 30 houses were damaged due to gales at Chintalapadu village of Tiruvuru mandal, said Mylavaram Assistant Commissioenr of Police (ACP) P. Ramachandar Rao. Four persons also suffered injuries, he added.

“Pickets have been arranged at Ultavagu, Kakalavagu, Kattaleru and other streams as a precautionary measure,” the ACP said.

A car was washed away in the swelling Pedavaagu at Nunna village in Krishna district. However, Srinivas Reddy and his wife who were on board the vehicle, were rescued.

Heavy rain damaged crops in Nandigama, Jaggaiahpet, Tiruvuru and other areas in NTR and Krishna districts.

NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha, MLA Kolikapudi Srinivas, MRO Rajya Lakshmi and other officials visited the villages and enquired about the situation in Tiruvuru, Mylavaram and Nandigama mandal on Thursday.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Commandant V.V.N. Prasanna Kumar said that five teams have been sent to Srikakulam, Parvathipuram-Manyam, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema and Alluri Sitharamaraju districts.

Team from the Regional Response Centre (RRC), Visakhapatnam, was deployed in the affected areas in Visakhapatnam district, he said.

Krishna district Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu said that pickets have been arranged on the roads where streams were overflowing onto the roads.

Eluru District Collector K. Vetriselvi and Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore appealed to the public not to cross the overflowing rivulets and vacate the dilapidated buildings.
