India’s men’s and women’s kabaddi teams moved into the Asian Games finals with commanding semifinal victories on Friday, keeping their campaigns to defend the gold medals firmly on track in Nagoya, Japan.

The women’s side was the first to book its place in the title clash, defeating Nepal 48-24. The men followed with an equally emphatic 66-28 win over Thailand in the last-four encounter. Both defending champions also maintained their unbeaten records in the ongoing edition.
India’s women controlled the contest from the outset, taking a 31-17 advantage into the break. Their first-half tally included four all-outs and four bonus points. Nepal struggled to close the gap after the interval and could add only seven points in the second half.
The men produced a similarly dominant display. They led Thailand 37-18 at halftime and continued to dictate the match after the break. India’s superiority was also reflected in the bonus-point count, with the Indians collecting 15 compared with Thailand’s five.
India will face the winner of the Iran-Chinese Taipei semifinal in the final of both the men’s and women’s competitions.
Women’s kabaddi was introduced to the Asian Games programme in 2010, and India have won gold at every edition since its inclusion. The Indian men are also the reigning champions.
Men’s kabaddi has featured at the Asian Games since 1990, with India claiming eight gold medals. Iran is the only other country to have won the men’s title, doing so in 2018. India finished with a bronze medal at that edition.
