The incident was reported around 9:30 pm on September 23 near Hakikat Park in Mukherjee Nagar.

The vehicle allegedly used in the harassment of two Delhi University students in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar has been traced and recovered by police.

According to police, the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident was traced to its registered owner. Police said a man identified as Naman Choudhary was driving the vehicle at the time and was accompanied by two to three other people. The police have identified the alleged suspects and said further investigation is underway.

The incident was reported around 9:30 pm on September 23 near Hakikat Park in Mukherjee Nagar. Police subsequently registered an FIR at Mukherjee Nagar Police Station under Sections 78, 79 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to stalking, an act intended to insult the modesty of a woman and common intention.

‘I Was Lucky That I Got Saved’

Speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, the student said, “I was lucky that I got saved," and alleged that the men tried to pull her inside the car.

The student said she and her friend were near a park at around 9:30 pm when three to four men in an SUV allegedly approached them. She alleged that the men abused and harassed them before following them and attempting to forcibly pull them into the vehicle.

The student also alleged that she and her friend approached two to three police stations after the incident but were initially told that the matter did not fall under their jurisdiction.

The student said in a video that she and her friends visited three police stations over several hours before the complaint was eventually registered at Mukherjee Nagar Police Station. Police have said they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the complaint.

The student has also raised concerns over the safety of women and students in the area. Referring to the recent incident involving a student near Lady Shri Ram College, she said measures being taken in the wake of such incidents amount to a “band-aid solution" and called for longer-term safety measures.

She further claimed that the Delhi University administration had said the accused would be rusticated, but alleged that no such action had been taken so far.

CCTV Footage Shows Students Walking Before Alleged Incident

CCTV footage obtained in connection with the case reportedly shows the student walking with her friend on the same road a few minutes before the alleged incident.

Police are examining the footage as part of the ongoing investigation into the sequence of events that unfolded later that night.

According to police, the two women were walking when a group of men travelling in a Safari allegedly made lewd remarks, misbehaved with them and used abusive language. Police said the men subsequently followed the women.

The student, in a video recounting the incident, alleged that the men followed her and her friend and later tried to pull them into the car when they stopped to record what was happening. The men allegedly fled after the friend took out her phone.
