Mumbai Ganesh Visarjan 2026: Mumbai witnessed a steady stream of Ganesh idol immersion processions on Friday as devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesha on Anant Chaturdashi. As of 6 PM on September 25, a total of 5,715 Ganesh idols had been immersed across the city, according to figures cited by PTI.

Of the total idols immersed so far, 5,471 were household idols, 198 were sarvajanik or public idols, and 46 were Gauri idols.

The immersion processions began across Mumbai in the morning, with devotees taking idols from homes and community pandals to designated immersion points. Streets across the city echoed with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya", while dhol-tasha performances accompanied several processions.

Friday marks Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of Mumbai’s Ganesh festival, when devotees traditionally immerse Lord Ganesha idols in water bodies or designated artificial ponds. The city’s major immersion locations include Girgaon Chowpatty and other designated sites across Mumbai.

Large crowds gathered along the roads in areas including Lalbaug to witness the processions. Devotees also gathered to watch prominent Ganesh mandals make their way towards immersion points, with traditional music, dancing, gulal and showers of flower petals adding to the festive atmosphere.

Among the prominent celebrations is the procession of Lalbaugcha Raja, one of Mumbai’s most famous Ganesh idols. Thousands of devotees have gathered along its route as the idol makes its way from Lalbaug towards Girgaon Chowpatty for immersion.

Mumbai’s civic and police authorities have deployed extensive resources to manage the large crowds and ensure the smooth movement of immersion processions. More than 24,000 police personnel are on duty for security and traffic management, while the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deployed around 25,000 staffers, officials said.

The BMC has also arranged artificial immersion ponds, lifeguards, ambulances, medical teams, cranes and other emergency services at various locations.

Authorities have urged devotees to use designated immersion points and follow safety instructions issued by the police and civic authorities.

With several major processions still underway, the number of idols immersed in Mumbai is expected to rise as celebrations continue through Friday night and into the early hours of Saturday.
