Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK chief C Joseph Vijay on Friday vowed strict action in the POCSO case against industrialist R Veeramani, who was arrested along with two others over allegations of sexual offences against minor girls.

Addressing a TVK rally during the bypoll campaign in Madurantakam, Vijay claimed that he knows who was backing Veeramani and questioned the alleged delay in action in the case.

“One man has been abusing girls, but they have covered up this case. The entire state is asking what is the deal. Please speak up, Stalin sir. We have put him behind bars, but there is still no word from the others. All are little girls. If you can’t speak about their pain, what politics have you been doing?" he said.

Vijay also alleged that the case had been covered up and sought an explanation from the state government.

However, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan rejected the attempt to link the case to the party, saying the police have already registered an FIR and arrested the accused.

“They have arrested him (Veeramani) and filed an FIR. Let them proceed with it. Why should they involve DMK? If there was a complaint earlier, police should have investigated and taken action. Now they have acted and arrested him. It is a simple matter. A crime has happened and police should proceed with the case. The court will investigate and decide punishment. They are unnecessarily trying to link DMK," Elangovan said.

Union Minister and BJP leader L Murugan urged the Tamil Nadu government to establish a fast-track court for the case and ensure a speedy trial and justice.

“In a civil society, we can’t tolerate an act like this. No one should tolerate this type of act by this Veeramani. He abused 13-15-year-old children. The reports are telling that it’s not only today; continuously he did this type of act. Some officers and some political leaders who are behind this, they must be identified," Murugan said.

POCSO Case Against Veeramani

On August 29, 2026, police arrested Veeramani, 84, along with his alleged associates Shanthi and Mahendra Simhan under provisions relating to sexual offences against minors.

The initial investigation allegedly found that several minor girls were brought to a residence where Veeramani allegedly committed sexual offences against them. The three accused were subsequently produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Following the arrests, investigators also recorded statements from identified survivors before a Judicial Magistrate.

The case stems from a complaint lodged in 2025 by a city-based NGO volunteer. According to the complaint, an unidentified individual handed over a pen drive containing video evidence that allegedly showed an elderly man engaged in a sexually explicit act with a minor girl at the residence of an associate, Shanthi.

Following an investigation by the anti-vice squad of the Central Crime Branch (CCB), the suspect was identified as Gem Granites chief Veeramani.

Investigators are also examining whether key monetary exchanges and land transfers took place between certain business entities and Veeramani in an alleged attempt to cover up crucial evidence and derail the probe, police said.

A four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case and handling of the investigation.
